Some users, after migration, see items with a date of 1600. Why is this? Can it be changed/prevented?
When Priasoft migrates items, the process is a multi-step process.
- A new blank item is created in the target folder and is given the oldest date allowed by Exchange and MAPI: January 1, 1600.
- The contents of the source item is copied into the blank item in the target folder.
- The changes to the target item is saved.
Based on the above process, one can see that the new target item receives a sent/received date. The reason for this is so that while a user is actively working in their target mailbox during a migration, the newly copied items will, at first, sort to the bottom of the folder’s list of items. We chose this so that it did not distract a user with new items appearing at the top of the list briefly and then disappearing.
When step 2 is performed above – the copying of the source item’s contents – the sent and received dates are overwritten with the source’s values. However, drafts (and any other item which is created, but not sent) do not have a sent or received time yet and the default 1600 date is left behind.
When a user finally sends the draft item, Exchange will replace the value with the current date and time representing the time the item was sent.
