Exchange Migration Knowledge BaseCategory: Outlook Profile Update QuestionsProfile migration causes a strange OST filename?
Anonymous asked 10 years ago

While doing some testing with the Outlook profile update tool, it was noticed that the resulting OST file name is formatted with a set of random characters…is this expected?  Can it be changed?

When an Outlook profile is configured for Cached-Mode use, it normally creates a new OST file based on the current profile name, or the primary email address of the mailbox that is being cached. However, in order to support both a rollback strategy and to guarantee that a new OST file name is not going to conflict with any other pre-existing OST file on the computer, the ProfileManager creates the OST file name in a format of <GUID>.ost. There is no option to change this in the ProfileManager product, at this time.
