At this point in the project, all folders should have been through at least one content sync and the hierarchy and permissions processed in its entirety. The consistency reporting is used to review folders that have deltas and to identify if there are any gaps in the folder hierarchy.
The report can be used to create a ‘patch’ job that targets specific folders with deltas as a way to shorten the convergence time of the sync. The patch job would be the small set of individual folders with differences and with no need to process subfolders.
Note that Priasoft does not lock any folders from updates or use throughout the entire process. As such it is possible and likely that users will continue to make changes and create deltas up to the point of cutover. Therefore, expectations should be set that at the time of cutover there is no guarantee that that 100% of all changes will have been synchronized. This is why the process steps include step #11, Post-Cutover delta sync.
The point of the consistency report at this time in the project is identify gaps in the hierarchy and contents and to bring as much of the deltas that occurred during the initial sync up to date and to reduce the number of differences just before cutover. If the duration of the previous steps has turned out to be very long, e.g., weeks or months of effort, there can be a substantial number of deltas that remain.
This reporting also helps with upstream reporting to managers and stakeholders as to the overall progress and how much is remaining before a cutover can happen.
The consistency report generation is an on-demand action in the PF Toolbox. The nature of this report creation is one that will enumerate every folder and optionally every item in order to provide a true accounting of effort performed. As such, the creation of this report can take hours or several days to produce depending upon the total number of folders in the hierarchy and the total number of items in the entire system.
As soon as there is an understanding of the differences a delta sync should be performed, and the duration used as a loose baseline of delta sync duration. The duration will be used when scheduling the pre-cutover delta sync.
