Exchange Migration Knowledge BaseCategory: Mailbox Migration QuestionsHow do I start a backfill of mailboxes after closing the migration console, or rebooting?
Anonymous asked 10 years ago

I see how to start the backfill of mailboxes in the migration console, by right-clicking on one or more objects.  However, if i close the console for some reason, or because of a reboot of the host, how can I pick up where i left off?

Each batch that is started has a windows shortcut created for quick access to that batch, at any later time.
These shortcuts can be found in the windows Start Menu under Priasoft\Mailbox Migration Manager\Migration Batches.
Batches are organized by several categories such as production or dry-run and whether nor not the batch was included backfill options.
The batch names are the date/time that the batch was started.

When you start a previous batch, the batch will start paused – by design – so that nothing starts automatically when you might not be expecting such.
From the loaded batch, you can export views, restart failed items, and start backfill passes on mailboxes.

Note that if a migration console is closed in the middle of a batch, perhaps to an unexpected reboot or crash, any previously active items will be marked as failed.  You can right click on such failed items and choose to restart them so that you can easily recover from a crash or reboot.
